Genoa Model United Nations

"Dear Professors, MUN Associations and Students,
It is our pleasure to invite university students to attend the 12th edition of the Genoa Model United Nations, taking place in Genoa, from February 26th to 28th 2015.
Model United Nations is a simulation of a session of the United Nations, where each student has the opportunity to choose a country to represent and be active in debating the topics accordingly to their State's point of view in order to find solutions to worldwide issues. It therefore enriches the historical and procedural knowledge of the political processes, but also gives the chance to interact with the fellow colleagues deepening one's dialogue and negotiation abilities.
The Faculty of Political Sciences of the University of Genoa created three ad- hoc committees addressing up-to-date issues concerning our area of study:
1. Special Committee on Peacekeeping:
•Consolidating peace and security in the world's newest country: South Sudan
(UNMISS);
•Protection of Civilians (POC) in Peacekeeping Operations;
•Women and peacekeeping.
2. Historical Security Council (1991):
•Setting the issue of Croatian and Slovenian independence from Yugoslavia;
•The situation in Georgian SSR;
•The situation in Haiti.
3.Special Political and Decolonization Committee:
•The political situation in Ukraine with a special focus on the legality of intervention in the country;
•Intensifying common policies for the safeguarding the rights of maritime refugees;
•GA topic (ad-hoc).

Our main aim is to build bridges among nations and young people in a dynamic way. GeMUN group, indeed, as a THIMUN affiliated conference, has an extensive and recognized background in the MUN community, and it brings together up to 600 students every year from all over the world.
We invite both experienced delegates-student officers positions are available-and newcomers to attend our conference, with the hope to create a friendly and international environment where a fruitful and cooperative debate can take place.
The deadline for the applications is January 15th 2015; however, since we are currently receiving many requests, we suggest to confirm the participation within December 1st 2014.
